Sinopec has always adhered to the principle that "environmental protection takes priority over everything, above everything, and more important than everything", integrating environmental management across all levels, processes, timeframes, and aspects of its operations. The Company has also continuously strengthened its management system, enhanced environmental risk prevention and control, ensured strict environmental compliance in construction projects, enforced environmental information disclosure policies, and comprehensively elevated its overall environmental governance standards.

Improving  environmental management system

Sinopec strictly adheres to national laws and regulations on environmental protection, guided by its HSE management system. The Company has revised two environmental protection policies, creating a set of 16 environmental management systems that span the entire business chain, covering areas such as pollution prevention and control, ecological conservation, environmental management in construction projects, environmental monitoring and reporting, and risk management and emergency response. Sinopec has also conducted educational programs on environmental responsibilities and objectives, organized specialized and targeted training sessions, and launched enterprise training courses along with 20 special seminars to enhance the awareness and capabilities of environmental management personnel at all levels.

Normalizing project management

Sinopec enforces stringent environmental management throughout the entire lifecycle of its construction projects. The Company has enhanced its environmental protection classification management system to ensure compliance at every stage, from environmental impact assessments to construction, trial operations, and final environmental acceptance. The Company has also actively promoted green and ecological designs, implemented energy and environmental control measures, and improved the overall environmental standards of its projects. Regular environmental compliance inspections were conducted throughout the year, achieving a 100% compliance rate for all new projects.

Preventing environment risks

Sinopec consistently strengthens its control and management of potential environmental risks. The Company has conducted quantitative assessments of environmental risks, provided specialized training on environmental risk control, and organized on-site verification of these assessments. It has also systematically reviewed and evaluated corporate environmental risk assessment reports and identified risk sources, applying a quantitative, hierarchical control system. Furthermore, Sinopec has enhanced water risk prevention and control measures and inspected environmental protection facilities and safety protocols to effectively prevent environmental risks. Sinopec's independently developed high-efficiency oil film online monitoring and oil spill risk warning systems have enabled monitoring of and response to oil spills, providing tiered risk alerts and effectively preventing and managing water pollution incidents caused by oil leakage. Chemical companies along the Yangtze River have implemented stringent control measures to mitigate the risk of substance leakage at terminals, including liquid terminal oil spill prevention and containment protocols, accelerated technical upgrades, and strengthened management practices. These measures have bolstered water risk prevention and control capabilities, ensuring that no wastewater or chemicals are discharged into the Yangtze River. In 2023, the Company reported zero incidents of environmental pollution or ecological damage.

Disclosing environmental informaiton

Sinopec and its affiliated enterprises strictly comply with national and local regulations, establishing a comprehensive system for environmental information disclosure. To ensure that environmental data is disclosed promptly and accurately, the Company has established a communication mechanism to engage with surrounding communities on environmental matters as required. The Company has also actively supported environmental protection through public welfare initiatives. To date, all affiliated enterprises fully meet the disclosure requirements, with no penalties incurred for non-compliance.
