Geothermal Energy Terminology (Glossary 1.0), compiled by the International Geothermal Standards Committee (IGSC), has been officially released at the World Geothermal Congress 2026 in Calgary, Canada. As the world’s first unified terminology standard for the geothermal industry, the Glossary that integrates terminology systems from multiple countries will help accelerate the large-scale application of geothermal technologies, and promote the global energy transition and carbon neutrality.

Initiated by the International Geothermal Association (IGA), IGSC has its secretariat hosted by Sinopec Star New Energy. As a leading player in China’s geothermal industry, Sinopec has been deeply involved in the establishment of international geothermal standards with continuous efforts spanning technology R&D, project implementation, and international standard-setting.
