Celebrating Chinese New Year around the World EP07: Kuwait
Today, the 6th day of the Chinese New Year, is also the Beginning of the Spring, the first solar term in the Chinese lunar calendar. In ancient China, people put up red paper strips with the characters “Yi Chun” (meaning “embrace spring”) on the Beginning of the Spring, a tradition known as “Tie Chun” (meaning “decorating for spring”), which later evolved into the custom of pasting up spring couplets.
This year, the Beginning of Spring coincides with the Spring Festival holiday. Sinopec employees in Kuwait celebrate this special day with a variety of Chinese traditions. They decorate their workplace with spring couplets, paint vibrant New Year pictures and enjoy a tug-of-war competition, wishing for a bright and prosperous year ahead!
